What Section Ledger is
Section Ledger is a shared deadline ledger for one college class section at a time. Anyone with a section's join code can add a deadline; every member of that section sees it instantly.
What we collect
- Your email and school domain, when you sign in. Used to verify you're a student and to send you amendment notifications, if you've enabled them.
- Section memberships and course identifiers — which sections you've joined, and each section's course code, term, and title.
- Deadline content you or your classmates add — titles, types, and due dates. This content is visible to every member of the section it belongs to, and it survives your account being deleted (see "Deleting your account" below) — a deadline is section property that the rest of your section relies on, not something that disappears when one contributor leaves.
- Comments on deadlines, visible the same way.
- Whether you've started or finished a deadline. This is shown to other members of your section only as an anonymized count (e.g. "8 started, 3 done") — never attributed to you individually, by us or by anyone else, through any part of the app. In sections with fewer than 5 members, even that count is suppressed entirely, since a small enough count can itself identify who's behind.
- A generated pseudonym ("handle"), different in every section you're in, used to attribute deadlines, amendments, and comments to you without using your real name.
- Usage analytics (
analytics_events) — which features you use, to understand how the app is actually used. Not shown to other members.
- AI-capture usage (
api_usage) — if you use photo/AI capture to add a deadline, we log token counts and estimated cost for billing and spend-cap purposes. This is retained after account deletion for billing records, with your account link removed.
- A push notification token, if you enable push notifications.
What we don't collect
Your real name (there is no field for one — a display-name field existed early on, was never shown to anyone, and was removed entirely rather than kept as dead weight), phone number, physical address, location, contacts, health data, payment information (this app has no purchases, no paywall, no ads), or any government ID.
Who we share data with
- Supabase hosts our database, authentication, and backend functions.
- Anthropic processes deadline text/photos you submit via AI capture, to extract structured deadline data. We don't retain the raw photo/text beyond the resulting deadline entry.
- Resend sends amendment-notification emails on our behalf.
- Expo delivers push notifications on our behalf.
Each only receives what it needs to do its job — we don't sell data, and we don't share it for advertising, because this app has none.
Deleting your account
Reachable directly in the app (Profile → Danger zone → Delete account) — you never need to contact us to do this. When you delete your account:
- Deadlines and comments you added stay in your sections (your classmates rely on them) but are no longer linked to your identity.
- Your generated handle stays attached to your past contributions (displayed as "Former member") so the section's history stays honest, but the account behind that handle is gone.
- Your follow-through marks, section memberships, notification preferences, and push token are deleted outright.
- A section where you were the only member is deleted along with its deadlines.
- Billing/analytics records are retained with the link to you removed, for accounting purposes.
- Your profile and sign-in are permanently deleted.
Content moderation
Deadlines and comments are checked against a content filter at the time they're posted. Any member can report content they believe is inappropriate, harassment, spam, or not a real deadline; content reported by two or more different members is automatically hidden pending review, and a moderator reviews it — typically within 24 hours — to restore it or remove it permanently. You can also block a specific handle's content from your own view at any time, reversible from Profile → Blocked; this only changes what you see and doesn't notify anyone.
